Review: THE GROOVE PIRATES Mix Blues Standards and Fresh Originals

THE GROOVE PIRATES are invading Sunday Church for Bad Guys December 16th

The Groove Pirates featuring Sean Rickner, Greggy Polo, Kerry Hannah, Bill Cooke, and Adam McColl (drums) will be at Church this Sunday. The Groove Pirates are a Winnipeg Blues band who’ve been together with a various crew for about a year. They have their own interpretation of older standards, but they’ve also published a couple of originals “I Think I Luv You”

and “Bad Bad Feeling”.

Entering the stage are some burly guys who want to be the life of the party. Their website says “hire us!”. They’re willing to do anything for the gold (or cold hard cash), including weddings, but stipulate they don’t do honeymoons.

The Captain of the ship is Sean Rickner (vocals/blues harp). I like his voice. It’s smooth. He says he’s inspired by Little Walter, Muddy Waters and the Sex Pistols. How he came up with that mix, I have no idea. Listen on Sunday and see if you can pick any of that up in his performance.

Hide your women on Sunday, December 16th 2018. The Groove Pirates are coming to The Pyramid Cabaret at 175 Fort St. in The Peg!
